To The Lighthouse: Point Reyes Edition

To The Lighthouse: Point Reyes Edition

In an effort to write about places in a relatively acceptable time frame after visiting, I’m sharing some pictures from my hiking excursion to Point Reyes National Seashore with my parents.

I went in May after months of wanting to photograph the lighthouse. I’ve also been slowly reading Virginia Woolf’s To The Lighthouse, so there’s that as well. And though I did get the shot above (through a fence), turns out the lighthouse is only open Friday – Sunday. We went on a Tuesday. Still, it was a beautiful day, if a little foggy/cloudy, and perfect for a walk around the rocky hills. There were lots of dogs, cheery chirping birds and crashing waves. Also a good collection of little wildflowers and such.

Depending on the season, you can look forward to elephant seals, harbor seals, snowy plovers and tule elk. If you’re the type that likes volunteering in nature, you can go on their website and watch out for opportunities!

Visiting places like Point Reyes and Muir Woods (post coming soon!), always makes me very thankful to live in the Bay Area/California where there are so many beautiful places close by. Ocean? Check. Forest? Check. Mountains? Check.

Extra tip: If you or someone you know is a Senior (ages 62+), you can get a lifetime pass for just $10 (20 dollars online), and it’s good not just for the pass holder, but for up to three other adults (and/or the passengers in a regular private vehicle). It’s free to visit Point Reyes, but for other national parks, you might want to look into an annual pass.

Happy Hiking!
